In brief

What you are signing up for

Anyone comparing this with the OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Psychology will find the two unit lists almost interchangeable: The Scope of Psychology, Social And Developmental Psychology, Biopsychology, The Development of Psychological Attachments, Processes Of Human Memory and Research Methods and Investigating Psychology. The odd capitalisation in some titles is how the awarding body's material presents them. Qualifi does not publish per-unit credits in what we hold; the total is 120 at Level 4.

Where the two diplomas differ is in the awarding body and its conditions. Qualifi asks for applicants to be 18 or over, normally with two references, one preferably academic, and IELTS 6 or equivalent where English is not the first language; it also states that experienced applicants without formal qualifications may be considered after interview. The content is so close that the choice usually comes down to progression: which awarding body's Level 5 Psychology you would rather follow on to. Neither confers professional status, and neither is BPS accredited.

  3. Biopsychology
  4. The Development of Psychological Attachments
  5. Processes Of Human Memory
  6. Research Methods and Investigating Psychology

Unit titles and credit values are taken from the Qualifi qualification specification. The order in which LSPM teaches them is set by LSPM and confirmed at enrolment.

The same logical sequence as the OTHM psychology diploma: scope, then social and developmental, attachment, biopsychology and memory, with research methods alongside and assessed last through a small study. LSPM confirms its own order.

Aged 18 or over, two references where possible, IELTS 6 or equivalent for non-native English speakers, and centre judgement on readiness. Qualifi's own text says that considerable experience without formal qualifications may be considered at interview.

Assessment

How you are assessed

Essays for the five content units and a research report for the methods unit. There are no exams; ask LSPM about draft feedback.

Assignments are set and marked by LSPM's tutors, moderated within LSPM and sampled by Qualifi before LSPM claims certificates. Draft feedback and resubmission arrangements are LSPM's own practice; confirm them at enrolment. How assessment works in full.

Progression

Where it leads, stated carefully

Level 5 Diploma in Psychology from Qualifi, the awarding body's own continuation.

An application for advanced entry to a psychology degree, decided by the university and constrained by any accreditation rules it follows.

Support, education, HR and research assistant roles where a grounding in psychology helps.

We do not name partner universities on this page. If and when LSPM shows us a written progression agreement for this diploma, it will be listed here with the date it was signed.

Readership

Who it suits

Likely to get a lot from it

  • People who want the Qualifi progression route into Level 5 Psychology.
  • Applicants without formal Level 3 qualifications but with substantial life or work experience, who Qualifi allows to be considered at interview.
  • International applicants comfortable with the IELTS and reference requirements.

Better served by something else

  • Anyone seeking a shortcut to counsellor or psychologist status; there is none here.
  • Learners who specifically want published per-unit credit values; the OTHM diploma provides those.
  • People who would rather avoid the research methods unit; it is compulsory and quantitative.
Questions

Asked about this programme

Is there any real difference from the OTHM Psychology diploma?

In content, very little. In administration, yes: different awarding body, different entry conditions, different Level 5 route. We are candid that the study experience is almost the same.

Can I enrol without A levels or a Level 3?

Qualifi's conditions allow experienced applicants to be considered after interview. Tell us what you have done and read, and we will give you a first view before LSPM makes its judgement.

Why do some unit titles have odd capital letters?

That is how the awarding body's material lists them, and this site reproduces titles as given. It has no bearing on content.
